KinderSmarts

KinderSmarts is a research based music program for children between the ages of 2-6.  KinderSmarts is a requirement for all new students under the age of 6 entering into our school, and makes for a wonderful foundational experience for students moving forward in music.

Children stay in this program until they are ready to transfer to another program.

Classes include study in piano, voice, performance, movement, general instruments knowledge, music notation, and rhythm training, and music history.  Classes are 90 minutes long with 1-6 teacher ratios.  Children are taught in a multi-tiered age system within a prepared, secure classroom environment.  All instructors at SmARTSunlimited are FBI fingerprinted and background checked. 

Curriculum is written by Deborah McQueen, and meets the MENC National Standards for Music Education. 

Depending on the age and duration of study your child will be able to do the following:

  1. RH & LH at the piano.
  2. High & Low at the piano.
  3. Up & Down at the piano.
  4. Finger numbers.
  5. Names of Keys.
  6. Treble Clef & Bass Clef.
  7. How to read line and space notes in both clefs.
  8. How to play simple piano tunes.
  9. How to sing as a soloist and in an ensemble.
  10. How to follow a conductor, and learn musical terminology.
  11. How to listen carefully, and watch for cues.
  12. How to perform in a formal recital.
  13. Orchestral instruments and their sounds.
  14. Know the names of 12 composers.
  15. How to relate music to everyday life.
  16. Team work.
  17. Listen to beautiful music from a variety of composers and cultures.
  18. Will write names, dates, composers, and simple answers to musical questions.
  19. Will draw pictures that answer musical questions.
  20. Will work with art materials creating novel art-inspired musical concepts.
  21. Will learn a sense of order while maintaining variety.
  22. Will learn personal awareness and hygiene skills through music.
  23. Will learn two self-paced computer-piano programs.
  24. Will learn other styles and genres of music.
